Does anyone have their hair permed?

I'm thinking of getting it done but I don't know what happens and whether it would damage my hair. I need advice from people who actually have it done or who are experienced. Is it a really big decsion or should I just do it. Also why does some people's hair 'cut off' at the back. I don't want that is it inevitable?

I had mine done a long time ago. It damages your hair to the same extent as dying it does. Usually I think they say that a perm may last up to 6 months. Mine both lasted longer, which they said was because I had natural curl to my hair that came out by being permed. That's the only reason it could be a 'big' decision is that they do last for awhile.

I have no idea what you mean about hair cutting off. Sorry.

I have only had bad experiences with perms. I would not reccomend it. Just use a curling iron or rollers when you want to go curly.

if you get a perm you have take care of it by washing and getting a perm probably like every 2 months.

Yes me - at 36 with thin long hair it was an essential.

Go to a good hairdresser who you trust and don't be bullied - show them what you want and listen to their advise.

Perming your hair will definately damage/change the characteristics of your hair. But if you really don't like your hair structure then go ahead and get the perm, you may even be happier with your hair once the behavioral properties have been changed.

I did a few perms myself. Actually, I did 3 in total. The first 2 were good and lasted forever or almost . Sure, it damages your fair a bit, like an iron or a colour for instead : they'll be dry.

I also went to a hair dresser school once and there, I had a few problems. THey left the rolls on ly head for too long and some hair were cut off at some parts. Nothing serious but annoying.

I would therefore recommend a soft perm in a good hair salon...

But it's so cool to have curls !! No need to brush or straighten them in the morning : wash and go !

A perm wil not damage your her if you get the right person to put in her head go to the her dresser and let them do it . It will be a lot of money though

i had my first i was nine. it dosent do anythin bad 2 my hair it made it curly. it wat salon u go 2, they can use different products. the perm will last at longer dependind on your type

Girl...My mom gave me a relaxer when I was 11 years old, and my hair has never been the same. If I can go back in time, I would have told her not to give me relaxer but just straighten it down. Relaxers do damage your hair if you don't take care of it correctly. My hair used to touch my shoulders, and now its barely past my ears. Its hard for my hair to grow now. For your own good, please think about it twice before you go for it.

I had a perm and my hair started breaking (cutting off) my hair is now very dry and breaks very easily as well as being frizzy and uncontrollable. If I were you I wouldn't get a perm because no matter how you look at it, the chemicals it the perm solution will damage your hair and it will take a long time for it to grow back to normal.

my ma had relly long hair and decided to get a perm done so she went to the salon and ask to get it done so while she was getting it done the hairdresser forgot how long she had left the treatment in and left it for another while.. my mam came out of the salon in a rage as they had completly destroyed her hair she had to get her hair cut like a man... so i would not advice it plus it can give you really dry hair which will lead to split ends...

Stick with natural. But i know how tough natural hair can be. If you decided to get a perm, make sure you go to a hairdresser. You should get a perm and wash/set every 6 weeks. You should also keep your ends trimmed. The problem with perms is getting it done costs a lot of money. $60 down here in Florida where im at. BUt it looks good when you are done. I wrap my hair every night so it doesnt break or damage while i sleep. Talk to a hairdresser and see whar you can do.

I NEVER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A PERM. I STILL PUT MY OWN PERM IN. THE BAD EXPERIENCES ARE OTHERS DO NOT TAKE CARE OF IT AFTER THEY HAD IT DONE. NO RUBBERBANDS, STAY AWAY FROM THE POOL WATER. MUST WRAP IT UP EACH NIGHT, AND A OIL SHEEN DAILY SO IT WONT BECOME BRITTLE OR DRY. NO OTHER CHEMICALS UNTIL 3-4 WEEKS AFTER YOU PERM IT. HAIR MUST NOT BE DAMAGE WHEN APPLYING THE PERM. IF DAMAGE CLIP YOUR ENDS CONDITION IT AND THE FOLLOWING WEEK PERM IT. FOLLOW THE PERMING DIRECTIONS EXACTLY. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN BY HAIR CUT OFF IN THE BACK. IT'S PROBABLY WHERE THE HAIR BROKE OFF AT BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF UP KEEP. MY HAIR IS ALWAYS SILKY, BOUNCY,SHINY. IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND KEEP UP THE MAINTENCE YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS.
