Should I remove black hair dye or re-dye it?

I have asian hair and i dyed it brown for a while. i got tired of the way it looked orange in the sun (and growing out) so i dyed it soft black but it came out jet black. summer is approching and i miss my orange-brown hair. i'm used to dying hair but black dye was a bit different. it made my hair really thick and stiff. should i try to remove the black dye or just re-dye it? or do i have to bleach it out? i really want to get rid of the stiffness and get it back to the color it used to be or ash brown.
